IBPS Exam Eligibility: PO, Clerk, Specialist and RRB Exam [2023]

Overview: Detailed IBPS eligibility criteria for PO/MT, Clerk, Specialist (SO) and RRB Cadre discussing age, education qualification (mark percentage), CIBIL, and relaxation applicable for candidates from reserved categories.
IBPS eligibility criteria

The minimum eligibility for taking the IBPS exam was just a pass in matriculation with 60 percentage marks when the recruitment began in 2011. Later, IBPS revised the eligibility conditions for PO, Clerk, RRB, and Specialist exams in 2013 and 2015. As of 2023, a bachelor’s degree is the standard qualification for anyone applying for IBPS recruitment. Regarding the upper and lower age limit, it is dynamic and affected by many factors, especially if relaxations are applicable. Are you planning to participate in IBPS Recruitment 2023? Find the latest IBPS eligibility requirements are explained below.

IBPS eligibility: Citizenship, CIBIL and other common requirements

Before heading to the IBPS website to apply online for any exam, we must review the detailed eligibility criteria for each category or cadre. Fortunately, certain IBPS eligibility requirements are universal and apply uniformly across PO, Clerk, SO, and RRB recruitments. An example of such shared criteria is Citizenship. Let’s examine these standard IBPS eligibility conditions first and then delve into the recruitment-specific criteria for each IBPS cadre.

Guidance on CIBIL Score

Apart from Citizenship, IBPS has recently introduced a new eligibility condition for IBPS selections starting from 2023 – a CIBIL score of at least 650 or above. Although credit history is not asked when submitting your application, the same will be verified if the candidate gets selected for any vacancy through IBPS exams and interviews. In essence, for any appointment, it’s necessary to have a CIBIL score above 650.

PWD candidates are eligible for IBPS recruitment

Candidates from the PWD category are eligible to apply for IBPS Exam and cliam reservations, as this vacancy is suitable for their selection. Kindly refer to PO, Clerk, SO and RRB notification for the type and degree of disabilities approved.

IBPS PO eligibility criteria 2023: age limit & education qualifications

Years ago, banks required a minimum of 60% marks in graduation to be eligible for appearing in their PO, Management Trainee or Assistant Manager exams. IBPS also included this requirement in their eligibility criteria for a few years, around 2011-2013. However, as of 2023, this requirement is obsolete. Anyone who has completed their degree course can now register for the IBPS PO exam if they are within a specific age limit. Take a look at the current IBPS PO eligibility criteria in the following table.

IBPS Eligibility PO/MT 2023-2024
Age Limit20-30 (As on 01-08-2023)
Educational qualification Degree (As on 21-08-2023)

That means if you are born between 02-08-2023 & 01-08-2003, you are eligible to apply for IBPS PO XIII recruitment. Furthermore, candidates from the below-mentioned categories can claim cumulative relaxation on upper age-limit criteria.

IBPS Clerk eligibility criteria 2023: age& education qualifications

For IBPS Clerk recruitment, the eligibility criteria have evolved from a Class 10 pass initially to now requiring a degree for application. Computer knowledge is another must-have qualification; however, it is sufficient if the candidate has studied a computer-related subject in their degree or +12 level. Local language proficiency is also a plus for IBPS Clerk. Coming to the age limit for IBPS clerks, the suggested one is 20-28, and compared to PO, the upper age limit is two years less.

Now let’s look at the age relaxation options for IBPS Clerk applicants. Unlike IBPS PO, widows and divorced women get relaxation in age-limit for IBPS Clerk.

IBPS Clerk upper age limit relaxation

As per IBPS, the relaxation mentioned in the eligibility document is cumulative. That means for a differently-abled candidate belonging to SC/SC community, cumulative relaxation, the upper age limit for applying for IBPS Clerk can be up to 5+10+28=43.

IBPS SO eligibility criteria 2023: age& education qualifications

A Specialist Officer (SO) also holds a managerial-grade position within Indian banks. Unlike POs and Clerks, they are not the officers you encounter at a bank branch on your daily visits. Instead, they operate in the backend, managing various specialised tasks that help the banks function. Depending on the specific sub-cadre of the SO, IBPS might require varying educational qualifications from candidates, including a degree or a degree with a specialisation in particular subjects as per the requirements of the banks.

One thing to note here is that in the case of candidates having dual degrees, one of the subjects should be from the fields prescribed in the educational qualifications for that particular IBPS SO cadre. Candidates holding degrees with more than two specialisations are not eligible to apply for the IBPS specialist exam.

The age limit for IBPS SO is similar to that of IBPS PO, ranging from 20 to 30 years, and terms on relaxations are also exactly the same, as explained in the PO eligibility requirements given above.

IBPS RRB eligibility criteria 2023: age& education qualifications

Under IBPS RRB recruitment, the agency recruits candidates for PO, Clerk, SO, and other senior managerial positions through a single recruitment process for Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in India. There are nearly four individual recruitments under IBPS RRB, out of which one is for Assistant or Clerk, and the other three are for Officer posts: Officer Scale I, II, and III. Eligible applicants can apply online for one of the Officer posts at a time. Additionally, if they wish, they can also register for the Clerk recruitment.

Unlike IBPS Clerk, PO, and SO, the minimum age to apply is 18 years. However, the educational requirement remains the same, which is a degree. Some of the IBPS RRB cadre positions require a professional degree and work experience. All the eligibility criteria for IBPS RRB are provided in the following table.

    • Dear Mr. Mandal, as I said earlier, you don’t need 60 percentage in graduation to be eligible for IBPS recruitment. You’re much eligible for IBPS PO and Clerk exams in 2018 as you have 50 percent in degree. And BTW, please turn-off your caps lock key 🙂
