IBPS uses an online allocation system for placing the successful candidates to the participating banks, and prior to that the winners have the option to choose a desired workplace, and this is called submitting order of preference. Although the top rank holders in IBPS examination have the advantage of getting a job at any bank of their choice, all examinees have to go through a priority analyzing mechanism, which includes arranging their bank preferences, state (for Clerical Cadre), merit, category, and other aspects to form a rank list.

A PO or specialist officer is bound to work anywhere in India, but selecting a bank with more branches and popularity would be much important for the applicants. Regarding clerks, choosing another State is out of context- candidates can, however, narrow-down their preferences from a list of available banks. Before giving the order of bank preference online, each has to go through the list of IBPS enabled banks, no. of available vacancies State-wise, branch locations, etc. and finalize on an order. Once the bank preference list is prepared, they can submit the options at IBPS website. The preference cannot be changed after the submission of the form, and the candidates are advised to take a print out the order submitted.

If a SC/ST/OBC/VI/HI/OC person gets qualified for a job without reservation benefits, his or her allotment doesn’t affect the total number of seats available for the reversed section. It is actually going to reduce the chances of someone from the general community. The unplaced candidates, however, need not to worry a lot. More job openings may arise in the coming months as even the private banks are now using IBPS score for recruitments.
